lost spaces

Lost spaces is a musical project spearheaded by Sam Lopez. Starting with the drop debut single fake.guitars in 2018, lost spaces went on to release multiples singles which compiled into their debut album no-vacancy ; garnering 3.8 million streams and views (Sept 2019) in just over a year in releases.

“For “no-vacancy”, the main thing I would hope people take away from it is that as much as opening up our hearts to other people and trying to find love in a seemingly love-less generation seems to be the hardest thing to do, don't be jaded. Give yourself a chance, do it with caution, but never shut yourself out. We’re human beings, designed to connect, to love and to grow. Don’t let the hurt of yesterday prevent you from seeing the light of tomorrow.” - Sam

Ultimately the motel is a visual representation of Sam’s heart inviting the listener to “visit” this place.

The art style revolves around Sam’s lyrics and narrative of each song in the album. The emotion I wanted to capture was this fleeting feeling of love; a mix of melancholy and serendipity. One of the first things most people would notice immediately is the colour palette which I would explain more below.

The colour tone used for each respective cover art has been consistent since Instant.romance. I took references of colours and reflection of things during the golden hour fading into the twilight sky. The colours plays a large emotional part of this. Just imagine sitting down watching the sunset fading away to the dark night, you just can’t help but to feel this mix of feelings of content and sadness at the same time. The retro 90s style is basically a throwback to the City-Pop era of music.
